crossing the forest
grandmother’s house beckons
a comfort and a warning
I’m tempted to leave the path
to step inside
and let the wolf eat me
so they notice

She is a Shirley Jackson Award and five-time Bram Stoker Award® winner with more than forty titles to her credit, including novels, collections, anthologies, nonfiction, and several books for children.
