Dear writers,
We’re delighted to announce that we’re trying out a new format for our regular writing roundtables this issue. In the past, the writing roundtables have been Substack-based, asynchronous things. We post an introduction and prompt and you, if you feel so inclined, post responses, and we go from there.
This has worked beautifully to date, but we’re feeling that being in the room with you, talking about and experimenting as writers, might be even more magical. And so, we’re delighted to announce that our writing roundtable for Issue Five will be a live online workshop, hosted on zoom, and available to all paid subscribers.
What to expect: A two-hour, generative writing masterclass, including writing prompts and exercises, including plenty of opportunities for sharing writing-related ideas, inspirations, and questions.
Who? Nike Sulway, the host of the May writing roundtable, is one of the editors of The Orange & Bee. She’s also an experienced and award-winning writer, and writing mentor and teacher. She’s taught creative writing for more than twenty years, both within the university sector, and beyond. She’s the author of a wide range of award-winning short stories, poems, and novels. From children’s books, such as Winter’s Tale and What the sky knows, to speculative fiction novels, such as Rupetta. Oh, and poetry, including the Puss-in-Boots poem ‘A song from Bedlam (with apologies to Christopher Smart)’, which received second place in the 2021 Rhysling Awards.
When: The writing roundtable will take place on Saturday, 24 May, 10:00 to 12:00 am (AEST).
New York: Friday, 23 May, 8:00 to 10:00 pm
Use this international meeting planner to find out what day/time that is in your pocket universe!
Where: The roundtable will be hosted via zoom. All paid subscribers to The Orange & Bee will receive a post including a link to the roundtable two hours before the session begins. There’s no need to register or sign up (as long as you are a paid subscriber!): just wait for the link to drop in your inbox, and come online!
What to bring: Writing implements (pen, paper, ink, keyboard …) and an open mind—get ready to be inspired!
Got questions? We’ve got you: please share any questions you have below.
Love this because, as much as I love the reader’s and writer’s roundtables, I have to remember to actually do them! This makes sure it’s in my calendar, not just a saved post or on a to-do list.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for hosting it today - it was a lovely experience and I'm really grateful it was in an Asia-Australia-AoNZ friendly time (there are so many in US time zones, I'm selfishly delighted when there's one in something close to mine).
