Oh I am so excited for this - what a brilliant idea. I've been a lover of fairytales (and the conversation around it) for what seems like my whole life - I even had the chance to study folklore and fairytale as part of my degree (my deep dive back then was into Little Red Riding Hood but I still regularly dip into my collection of Marina Warner when I'm thinking about my own writing). Basically I love this concept and I'm so intrigued to see where it goes!!

Love the idea, the title, the project. I was always rewriting fairy tales in my head when I read them to my daughters, especially ( as a step mom) because of all the terrible step mom archetypes. Will all your writers be commissioned for future issues or will you be accepting submissions from lesser known or emerging writers, unpublished writers?

Hi Vati! It's lovely to hear from you. Thank you for your interest in our project.

That's so wonderful about your interventionist retellings (even if just in your head!) of the 'evil stepmother' stereotype that pervades some fairy tales. A wonderful example of the way that we're so often in conversation with old stories <3.

We are open to submissions from ... anyone! We did commission the works for the first issue, but going forward our submissions are open to anyone who chooses to submit. You can find information about what we're looking for, and how to submit, on the 'Submissions guidelines' page on our Substack (https://theorangebee.substack.com/p/submission-guidelines).

Our hope is to provoke and encourage writers (including new and emerging writers) to 'write back' to the fairy-tale tradition; we're excited about the prospect of discovering and nurturing new voices!
